University of Tampere

The University of Tampere (UTA) is a multidisciplinary university especially known for research on society and health. UTA’s wide-ranging profile fosters phenomenon-based research, which breaks the conventional boundaries of disciplines and explores new interfaces and perspectives.

Research on arctic topics is conducted in many faculties and research centres. Among the key themes in arctic research are the use of natural resources, energy production and policy, international cooperation, regional policy, environmental security, questions of Sámi rights, sustainable development and the ethics of global climate change. Russian Studies is also a strong field of research.

TAPRI, the Tampere Peace Research Institute operating within UTA, is a multidisciplinary and international research centre whose mission is to conduct high-quality research on the causes of war, non-violent conflict resolution and conditions for peace. The focus of TAPRI’s research agenda is on peaceful change to which all of its ongoing projects are related. Arctic research at TAPRI highlights the effects of climate change and globalisation on the Arctic.
